Wacky Wednesday - Germs

Mrs. Roberts really out did herself this week on her Wacky Wednesday lesson.  We had a spray bottle, corn starch, and glitter hand sanitarian everywhere demonstrating how quickly and easily germs spread through a room.  The kids really got a "hands on" approach to germs.  I think after today's lesson the students really understand the importance of covering their mouths when they cough, sneezing into their elbows, and washing their hands!!!  Check out our fun....

I "mustache" you to come to Young Life Capernaum

Our first Young Life Capernaum meeting was yesterday.  To say we had fun is an understatement.  The students came in so excited about having club.  Our theme was "I mustache you to come to Young Life Capernaum".  I can't wait to see all the joy this opportunity will bring to our building and the lives of our students.  I put together a short video of the highlights from the meeting.  Have you ever been the chair in musical chairs?  I must say that was pretty funny!!!

Audubon Arts

The Audubon Arts field trip is one of my very favorite ones of the year.  We are so blessed to be a part of a community that puts this on.  The students get to experience various art forms and it is a super fun day.  What is not fun about a day filled with music, dance, art, etc.?  Plus, we always get to see some of our friends from other parts of the county.  It was a beautiful day for it.  Check out all the fun we had!

Wacky Wednesday - Hair and Nails

Our Wacky Wednesday topic last week was hair and nails.  Our young ladies had the opportunity to visit Mr. Jim's Beauty College.  We got to get our hair cut, styled, and our nails painted.  We also learned about the importance of washing and brushing our hair and healthy hair care.  We finished up our trip with lunch at Pizza Hut.

Our young men had the opportunity to work on hair and nail care at school.  We watched a really cool video about the importance of taking care of our nails.  Mr. Lamar talked to the boys about taking care of their hair every day, too.

Wacky Wednesday - Dental Care

Our Wacky Wednesday topic this week was dental care. We watched the cutest video about Kirby the monkey. Have you ever seen a monkey brush his teeth? Hilarious!!!

We were able to take a good look at the different dental tools a dentist uses in the office, and discussed the importance of going to the dentist 2x per year.

Mrs. Higdon showed us a really cool experiment with an egg. This egg was soaked in coke for two days. It was discolored and the outer shell was wearing away. Think about what the coke does to your teeth when you don't brush them. Yuck!

Mrs. Higdon also demonstrated the proper way to brush your teeth. Please encourage your student to brush/floss twice per day!

Buddy Walk

We raised $224.12 at our Buddy Walk this morning to donate to the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association! We are so excited about this donation!

Tailgate Party

This was the second year for us to do a Tailgate Party.  We had an awesome time and really appreciate all the CEC members who came and the parents who made arrangements for their students to stay as well.  For the first hour we rotated through the rooms playing different games like, Disney Charades, Hot Potato, Freeze Dance, and Bridge Ball.  Then we ate pizza, chips, and cookies. We ended with a little face painting and of course karaoke.  

Panther Creek

We had a hot and sweaty CBI trip to Panther Creek Park.  Despite the heat, we still had an awesome time.
